Shipping The shipping charges are calculated on a per product basis. Product types and shipping destinations will affect the price. You will not be billed until the product is ready for shipping. All wood products are made upon ordering, and are usually shipped 3-4 weeks after the order is processed. We will do our best to give you accurate ship dates, but we cannot be held accountabe for delays caused by unavailability of product. - All items are shipped per common carriers, (FedEx, YRC, Central Transport). As a general rule, if your order exceeds 150 lbs it will be shipped on a pallet. You are responsible for ensuring all items are there at delivery. Please count all packages and make certain before signing that all boxes were delivered. The shipping will be 30% of the order subtotal, plus a $9 base fee. Every item is carefully inspected before it is packaged, and is free from any defects or damage. Please inspect boxes upon arrival before signing the bill of lading from the freight company. Note any damage directly on the Bill of Lading. Damages can occour in shipping, but at Lighted Landings we feel it is our job as a business to make sure that the product we ship arrives exactly as it was shipped. Check to make sure the stretch wrap is still intact. We use a green tinted stretch wrap. If you see damages, sign for this on the bill of laiding the driver has. Once you have time to unpack everytihng, make sure there is no concealed damage. We will only allow 28 days after delivery to report damage or missing items. No exceptions. So please take a look shortly after the items are recieved.
Returns Notify us for return authorizations. Returned items may be traded for another item of equal value, only after Lighted Landings has recieved the item being returned. Please return ALL items in original packaging. Returns are subject to a 25% restocking fee. Any items that have been altered in any way may not be returned. We do not allow returns of less than $100 product value or after 60 days has passed since the product was originally shipped, NO EXCEPTIONS. ALL wood products are custom made upon order, and are non-returnable.
Cancellations Items may be cancelled at or before ship date. Cancellations after production has already started are subject to a 25% restocking fee (WOOD PRODUCTS ONLY). If the item has already shipped, please follow the return policy listed above. Lighted Landings holds the right to choose with whom they conduct business, and may choose to cancel your order for any given reason at any time.
Discounts We offer contractor pricing, and it is simple to set up with us. Sometimes the discount program can earn you up to 30 percent off or more. The program works as follows. -For your first two orders, our online pricing will be given. For your third order, we will give back (in the form of credit towards your purchase) the difference you paid between contractor and retail pricing. From that point on, you will be given a contractor price list. To qualify as an order, the value must be above $500 before shipping.
How do I change the light bulb? The base of the Lighted Landings newel post houses a decorative access panel. Remove the access panel to reveal the light fixture housing. Remove the pin that secures the light fixture inside the post. The fixture will then easily drop down, allowing access to the light bulb and glass shade. For your safety, always remove power to the posts and allow bulb to cool before changing the light bulb.
Do I have to special order the light bulbs? No. Lighted Landings uses standard incandescent wedge-base safe incandescent bulbs available at most department or hardware stores. The bulbs are recommended at 4-watt max capacity. Lighted Landings offers upgraded bulbs for a longer life that are not offered in the stores.
How do I change the color of the newel post light? Changing the color of the newel post light is as easy as changing the bulb. Colored light bulbs are available at your local department store or hardware store. You can choose the Color-Pak available from Lighted Landings to find colors not available at the department store. The Color-Pak can be easily placed inside the glass shade.
How do I get power to my newel post? The wiring of your newel post is similar to the other lights in your home. Easy-to-follow instructions and diagrams are provided below for your electrician for installation. Our sales support staff can answer any additional questions regarding wiring or installation. The electrician will run 14/2 or 16/2 gauge wire in a series to the location of each Lighted Landings lighted newel posts before the posts are installed. Once installed, the electrician will return to connect power to the installed posts.
How do I switch on and off power to my Lighted Landings newel posts? There are several options for turning your newel post lights on and off. You can simply use a standard wall switch, or a pre-set timer. We recommend enjoying the full benefit of your stair light system by using the solar eye module. The solar eye is placed near indirect sunlight, where it will then turn your lighted newel on at night and off at dawn.
What is the electrical requirement for Lighted Landings newel posts? Your lighted newel posts will require a 12-volt low voltage system reduced from 110 volts. The reduction takes place with the use of a Lighted Landings transformer, which is easily located in the wall-switch box or solar eye box.

SIZE - 3-1/2” and 4-1/4” size newels available. Please check out the photo gallery for pictures of these newels. LENGTH – Depending on your staircase, a 48”, 52”, and 62” newel is available. Please check your local codes for requirements. SPECIES – Oak, Poplar, Maple, and Cherry are available. TOPSTYLE – All newels are available as a Pin-Top and Square-Top. For Square-Tops, please choose a finial. TP1-Ball Finial – 3-1/2” posts TP2-Squash Finial – 4-1/4” posts TP3-Bishop Finial – 3-1/2” AND 4-1/4” posts TURNING – Spirals and Flutes may be available on some posts, depending on your style of post. TRANSFORMER – A Transformer will be required for ALL lighted newels. Limited Warranty Lighted Landings newel posts, tops, balusters, and access panels (all wood products) are guaranteed against workmanship defects for one year from date of purchase. If Light Fixture or Transformer fails in two years from the date of purchase simply return for a full warranty. There are no warranties on light bulbs.
Lighted Landings does not in any way hold responsibility for the following: Stair componets not sealed within 30 days from the date of delivery. Stair componets exposed to harsh environments, moisture or direct sunlight before sealed.. Stair componets not properely installed. Lighted Landings requires installation by professionals. Any misuse or abuse of stair componets.
Installation Guide (Installation by professionals only)
The `stair installer, contractor, or owner shall identify and mark the location of each lighted newel post.
Drill a ½” to ¾” hole in the floor for floor mounted posts, the top of the stair for stair mounted posts, and in the wall or skirting for side mounted posts.
From the 12-volt side of the transformer, use 16-2 gauge wire concealed beneath the staircase, stair skirt, molding, etc., and proceed to the nearest lighted newel post location. Feed the wire up through the hole and provide a two-foot minimum lead, depending on the length of the newel post. The newel post lights are wired in parallel, proceed with wiring to all other post locations and concealing the wire and providing a two-foot minimum lead at each location. Wiring needs to be protected that is placed flush flooring or in any other location possibly affected by fastening hardware such as nails, staples, etc.
Identify the proper location of the dusk to dawn, light switch, or preferred switching method.
After the posts are installed and finished (e.g., with paint or varnish), complete the installation by connecting the light fixture and properly installing it in the post. Install the light shade and replace the access panel.
Switch on power to the newel posts.
Installing the light fixture and glass shade
If the access cover is in place, remove the access cover, locate the wiring coming up through the bottom of the post and connect the wiring to the light fixture leads using only appropriate size wire nuts. IMPORTANT, when installing the light fixture, the POWER TO THE POSTS MUST BE SHUT OFF.
Install the bulb into the light fixture by simply pushing the bulb into the light fixture.
Insert the glass shade up and into the post followed by the light fixture with bulb.
Secure the light fixture in place by inserting the wooden dowel provided into the hole located inside the posts.
Replace the access panel and switch on power.
Changing a light bulb
Follow the above instructions for changing a light bulb. Remove to remove electrical power from the system and to allow the hot bulb to cool before touching it.
